Black Bear

Trail

Picture of the old hydro electric plant on the cliff.  Do you see the skull?

The switchbacks leading down into Telluride are very narrow.

Compounding the problem are frequent areas where parts of the trail have washed out after rain fall.

Mid July is the perfect time for driving the Black Bear Trail.  The Alpine flowers were in full bloom.  On the high peaks there are still snow fields, so bring a jacket and warm clothing just in case your vehicle breaks down.

There are plenty of places to stop and relax from the stress of driving this steep and high altitude trail.  This waterfall is an example of the ever present water.   Children will find many “safe” areas in which to run and play...although I never could understand how they kept running at this altitude.
